The Strip
Don't get all excited about the titel of this post. It is not about skin but about a wonderful part of downtown Pittsburgh. It is more or less a street with lots of small grocery stores, herb and spice stores, bakeries, cheese shops, italian shops and so on and so forth. It is really great because you can get all kinds of different international ingredients that you won't find at Walmart (I think somebody once called it 'the terrible double u'?).
When I entered these stores, it is first of all the smell that I loved. There was a coffee shop (no weed, of course) and this spice shop, for example. I really liked it. It just felt like you could find anything there, even real bread, real Mozarella cheese and even fresh pasta.

Enrico's biscotti company is one of the places that really looked like they were in Italy or France. It is kind of strange but after a while I like to be reminded of Europe and I do miss it. When reading David and Robin's blog, I can't help but think that it is not just me who misses certain things after a while. So, Enrico's was a very nice store, it looked like a bakery and they had all types of biscotti, eg. with almonds, pumpkin, chocolate, anise, .. Very tasty!

There was an Italian store but I forgot it's name. It had a room full with these little boxes containing all kinds of nuts and seeds. It looked really pretty.
Lots of different types of pasta....
All kinds of cheese from Argentina, the Netherlands, Norway, Ireland etc. none from Austria but that's ok ; )
A fudge stand. Crazy stuff. It's supposed to taste like lots of different things but in the end it's just sugar. No offense! It looks great, though.
Pittsburgh is crazy about its American Football Team, the Steelers. They are apperently really good and have probably won the Superbowl a couple of times. See, I don't really care but poeple from Pittsburgh definitely do. They have lots of 'gear stands' (Fanartikel). One of the funniest things they have is 'The terrible towel'. I still don't really know what it is all about but their fans (Brian is one of them and he has one of those towels) love it. There are lots of students from Pittsburgh in Wooster and the other day there was a game and quite a number of the students wore their Steelers gear (T-shirts, caps...)
A fish and sea food store. Huge fish and crabs and squid (Tintenfisch), and, and, and,... it didn't smell as bad as at the fish market in Bergen...
