Washington DC - The Mall

Friday October 6th - Washington DC, at the Mall (where the capitol, the Washington Monument, the WWII memorial, the Smithsonian museums, the Lincoln, the Vietnam and the Korean memorials and probably a couple of other famous buildings are).
It rained, it was windy and cold. This picture with me standing next to the Washington monument with the White House in the background shows the weather conditions of this day very well. The National Air Force Memorial close to the Pentagon (not close to the mall).
The National Air and Space Museum. One of the most popular museums in the world. I did not go inside... We only had one afternoon, so we decided to take a look at most of the buildings there, which takes some time, especially when you have to fight the wind...there is also a lot of walking around because the mall area is huge! It is all very impressive!

World War II Memorial. It is strange to see a memorial about this war that is actually not about Austrian or German soldiers or the victims of the Nazi regime but about American soldiers.

The Washington Monument as it can be seen from the Lincoln Memorial. The Capitol can be seen behind it (from a different angle).

The Lincoln Memorial. Very impressive! You can already see the statue of Lincoln from the outside.

Lincoln's huge statue inside the Memorial.

Ginormous (gigantic plus enourmous) pillars.

The Vietnam Memorial. A lot of names on this wall...

Art along the mall.

For all the Gilmore Girls fans out there. The DAR actually exists and I was standing in front of its headquarters looking for Emily.

The DAR headquarters building. Still no Emily...

The White House. Mr. Bush seems to be home (flag on top of it). What can I say...?

One of the Capitol's subway stations. Seems like Vienna is just a train ride away...

The Capitol during the day.

The Capitol at night.
